Selected content from the 2015 main campaign, without expansions or console commands. Some entries reveal story events. “Method” means a required action or credential, not a numeric password.

Before looking for a password

This guide covers selected access methods and campaign locations. In Fallout, a collected password may act as an inventory item, unlocking the terminal automatically. Minigame words change, so use the likeness logic explained below.

For locks, adjust the bobby pin and turn gently. If it jams, release and reposition it; forcing it breaks the pin. A door marked “requires key” needs the item or mission progress indicated in the guide. COPY buttons appear only for fixed solutions.

How to find a terminal password

LOCATION
Terminals displaying a word list.
CLUE / REQUIREMENT
Likeness counts correct letters in the correct positions.
REWARD / EFFECT
Terminal access without a previously found password.
HOW TO SOLVE
Choose a word and read its likeness. For example, if COLD returns 3, GOLD is compatible because O, L and D occupy the same positions; this is not yet a certainty. Compare each candidate with all previous attempts. Select complete symbol groups enclosed in (), [], {} or <> to remove dud options or restore attempts. Exit before using the last attempt if unsure; when you return, reassess the new list.

Terminal hacking requirements

LOCATION
Difficulty shown when targeting the terminal.
CLUE / REQUIREMENT
Novice does not require Hacker. With Intelligence 4: Hacker 1 unlocks Advanced; Hacker 2, available at level 9, unlocks Expert; Hacker 3, at level 21, unlocks Master. Hacker 4, at level 33, prevents lockouts from wrong attempts.
REWARD / EFFECT
Lets you start hacking at the corresponding level.
HOW TO SOLVE
Check the requirement before spending time searching for a combination. If the screen says a specific key or password is required, find the mission credential; increasing your skill may not solve it.

Railroad secret door

LOCATION
Old North Church catacombs.
CLUE / REQUIREMENT
Freedom Trail markers associate positions with letters.
REWARD / EFFECT
Entrance to the Railroad hideout.
HOW TO SOLVE
In the church, descend into the catacombs and find the wall dial. Turn to R and press the center button. Repeat for A, I, L, R, O, A and D, confirming each letter individually.

ACCESS METHODPASSWORD IN INVENTORY

Kellogg's terminal

LOCATION
Fort Hagen command center.
CLUE / REQUIREMENT
Credential carried by Kellogg.
REWARD / EFFECT
Mission information and exit controls.
HOW TO SOLVE
After confronting Kellogg, collect the password from his body. Use the nearby terminal, read the required information and select the door-opening control. You do not need to type the credential as a word.

Treasures of Jamaica Plain

LOCATION
Basement of Jamaica Plain Town Hall.
CLUE / REQUIREMENT
Carl Everett carries the Town Hall key; Sal carries the mayor's password.
REWARD / EFFECT
2076 World Series Baseball Bat.
HOW TO SOLVE
Collect the key from Carl's body near the street barrier and the password from Sal's body upstairs in Town Hall. Open the basement entrance. Before the laser corridor, take the janitor's card from the console and use it to disable security. At the treasure door terminal, use the mayor's password. Enter the exhibit and collect the bat from the display case on the right.

ACCESS METHODSAL'S PASSWORD

Mayor's safe

LOCATION
Mayor's office, on the ground floor.
CLUE / REQUIREMENT
Sal is upstairs in Town Hall.
REWARD / EFFECT
Wall safe contents.
HOW TO SOLVE
Get the mayor's password from Sal's body and return to the office. Access the computer with this credential and instruct it to open the wall safe.

ACCESS METHODLOCKSMITH 3

Cryolator display case

LOCATION
Locked display case in the overseer's office.
CLUE / REQUIREMENT
The lock is Master difficulty.
REWARD / EFFECT
Cryolator weapon.
HOW TO SOLVE
Return to Vault 111 with Perception 4 and Locksmith 3, available at level 18. Use the external controls to descend into the vault, go to the office and pick the lock with bobby pins. There is no numeric combination for this case.
